Major WG Graham MC & Bar

Major Gordon Graham MC & bar died on 24 April 2015, aged 94. Born in Glasgow, he graduated at Glasgow University in 1940 and was commissioned in The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in March 1941. Posted to the 1st Battalion, he sailed for India in 1942, and served with the 1st Camerons at the battle of Kohima, and during the campaign in Burma. He was awarded the MC for gallant leadership of fighting patrols in the advance from Kohima, and a bar to his MC commanding D company at the crossing of the Irrawaddy river.
After the war he returned to India as a newspaper correspondent and publishers agent, later moving to New York. In 2003, after revisiting Kohima, he evolved the idea of expressing gratitude to the Nagas tribes who had played such an important role in supporting the 1st Camerons as guides, porters and stretcher bearers. The Kohima Educational Trust (KET), of which he was President, now awards annual scholarships to Naga children. Each scholarship provided by the Regimental Association Trustees bears the names of a Cameron Highlander lost at Kohima. In May 2014 Major Graham attended the service in Inverness to commemorate the 70th Anniversary the battle, and presented to the Old High Church and the Regimental Museum portfolios of photographs of Cameron graves at Kohima. He is survived by his daughter Mrs Sylvia May, Managing Trustee of the KET.

Alistair MacGillivray (GillY) 22/05/2013

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death Allistair (Gilly) MacGillivray who died on the 20th May 2013.
Gilly was agreat soldier and drummer, first with the Seaforth Highlanders then re-enlisting into the Queen's Own Highlanders.
Gilly was a loyal husband to his wife Meg and his children and grandchildren, he was also loyal to the Association Pipe Band for many years.
One of Gilly's pleasures in life was teaching young drummers, many drummers out there have to thank him for setting them off on their drumming career.
My own fondest memories of Gilly was when I used to meet him on the High Street of Elgin with the blue hackel proudly worn on his hat, you would get greeted with "Hello I'm the Gilly Gilly Man" and when you ended your conversation with him he would always end it with CABARFEIDH.
He will be sadly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of being friends with him or worked with him.
May he now RIP,

It is with much regret that I e-mail you this morning to let you know that Major Frank Blincow MBE died at 5.30pm at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness aged 86 years.
